A Sleepless Night in Early August
Heavy rain presses against the window while distant lightning briefly reveals the rooftops of a city already asleep. Inside, someone remains awake, reluctant to let the summer night end and unable to quiet thoughts about the years behind and the time still ahead. The composition holds this private hour without turning it into despair: the rain continues, the city rests, and the unanswered thoughts remain.

The night remains unfinished
The city has gone quiet long before the rain begins to ease. Water runs down the glass in uneven paths, joining the roofs, windows and streetlights outside into one dark moving surface. Far away, lightning opens the clouds for a second and then leaves the streets to their small amber reflections. Most windows are dark. Somewhere below, a late car passes and disappears.
Inside the room, the lamp is still on. A cup has gone cold beside a few books, and a glass of water catches a thin line of light. The person by the window has been meaning to go to bed, but the moment never quite arrives. There is tiredness, yet no sleep. The rain is loud enough to fill the silence and steady enough to make tomorrow seem already decided: another wet day, another walk postponed, another piece of summer left unused.
At first the thought is small and almost childish: there was still so much to do before autumn. To walk without a destination, stay outside after sunset, take pleasure in a warm evening simply because it was warm. But early August contains its own warning. Summer has not ended, and yet its end can already be felt.
Once that thought appears, the night widens. The person at the window is no longer thinking only about weather. Past summers return, not as complete memories but as fragments: a street, a voice, a journey, an age at which time seemed inexhaustible. The narrowing distance ahead is felt not as a number, but as the quiet knowledge that seasons, years and possibilities do not remain unlimited.
Another flash rises over the horizon. For an instant the city becomes clear, then dark again. Nothing has been solved. There is no dramatic promise that morning will change everything, and no final surrender to sadness. The lamp remains warm, the rain keeps falling, and the person stays beside the window a little longer. Perhaps sleep will come later. For now, the night is allowed to remain unfinished.
A quiet movement into deeper thought
The composition enters quietly, as though the room and the city have already settled into night. A clear lyrical idea holds the scene together, while the restrained movement leaves space for rain, wakefulness and the first awareness that summer is beginning to pass.
The middle becomes darker and more inward, not through spectacle or a dramatic break, but through weight, hesitation and a growing sense of time. When the central feeling returns, it is more fragile, carrying the knowledge that nothing outside the window has changed.
The closing gesture feels complete but remains slightly open. It offers neither an abrupt stop nor an easy resolution, leaving the impression that the rain and the thinking continue beyond the final sound. The storm stays at a distance and is suggested through the character of the music rather than literal thunder or rain effects.
